Claustrophobic About MRI's?
Southview Medical Center's Open MRI is for you!

What is an Open MRI?
Open MRI uses an open-air design that provides greater patient comfort during the exam. Claustrophobic patients, larger than average patients and pediatric patients can be comfortably accommodated.

What To Expect
  • Before the MRI scan, a patient may follow all normal routines including taking regular medication.
  • The procedure typically lasts about 45 minutes.
  • To conduct the MR study, a technologist will assist the patient onto a padded table. The table and patient are positioned inside the opening of the scanner.
  • The patient is required to remain still as possible during the exam.
  • During the exam, the patient will experience nothing unusual. A knocking sound will be heard as part of the imaging process.
  • After the exam, the patient may resume all normal activities.

Southview is one of only 63 hospitals in the nation to earn for five years in a row the Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence from the healthcare quality ratings company, HealthGrades, Inc.
