The vascular surgery fellowship is a 2 year subspecialty program.
The Vascular Surgery Fellowship program at Grandview Hospital is an extensive fellowship, which involves approximately 700-800 vascular procedures including endovascular techniques, laser, cryopreserved vein grafts and all modalities that are presently employed for correction of underlying vascular pathology. During the fellowship, there is a rotation through the noninvasive vascular laboratory that is a well-established, locally prominent laboratory performing 5,000-6,000 studies yearly, utilizing state-of-the-art noninvasive modalities. Tests performed at the vascular laboratory include arterial studies, graft imaging, venous ultrasound, Doppler, vein mapping, abdominal Doppler including renovascular and transcranial studies. Fellows completing a one-year program are not offered the opportunity for outside rotation and extensive involvement with a noninvasive laboratory except superficial exposure. During the second year of fellowship, there is a three-month outside rotation at another vascular program.
Special emphasis is placed on developing technical abilities, diagnostic competency, sound medical and surgical judgment, preoperative and postoperative care, as well as progressive development and responsibility. Throughout the training program, high ethical and moral standards in the Surgical Fellow are emphasized. Fellows will be exposed to basic sciences as related to surgical practice, and have required rotations in various specialty areas relating to the practice of surgery.
Candidates for fellowship shall be graduates of an approved Osteopathic college and shall have successfully completed training in an AOA approved General Surgery Residency program.
Candidates shall also be members of the AOA, and maintain membership throughout their specialty training. Accepted applicants are required to apply for license to practice Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery in the State of Ohio . Application requirements include completed application form with recent picture, official transcripts, copies of board scores and/or state licensure, copy of intern certificate, original letter of recommendation from current Director of Medical Education, three letters of recommendation, copy of medical school diploma, current curriculum vitae, and personal statement. All application materials must be submitted to the Grandview Department of Medical Education.
