KHN Observes Breast Cancer Awareness

Kettering Health Network observed Breast Cancer Awareness during the month of October with a flurry of promotional activities that shared patient stories and provided important information about breast care services across the Network.

Employees participated in the annual "Making Strides Against Breast Cancer" walk that raises funds to help the fight against breast cancer on Saturday, Oct. 17 at Dayton Dragons' Fifth Third Field. Each walker received a commemorative t-shirt and a pink backpack.

Special advertisements ran in the Dayton Daily News and on the web sites for WDTN-TV2 and WHIO-TV 7. Print ads featured real patients who have received advanced treatment via technologies that offer the latest in early detection and interventional therapy.

At Greene Memorial Hospital, members of the GMH Ruth G. McMillan Cancer Center visited and distributed DVDs of "Care to Share," a breast health educational DVD produced by the Greene Foundation. The team visited 241 places and distributed over 2200 copies of the DVD. In addition, each woman who had a mammogram in October was given a copy of the DVD. KHN Oncology Educator Tammy Fanz and GMH Oncology Educator Cristy Morgan-Back also had a table during GMH cafeteria lunch hours on Oct. 27, offering information about breast cancer awareness for employees and visitors.

Finally, on the Kettering Health Network web site, a special breast cancer awareness page was created to provide people with prevention, treatment and support information: www.ketteringbreasthealth.org.
