KHN Cameos of Caring Awards Celebration – Monday, May 3
“Cameos of Caring” is a Wright State University School of Nursing program that provides a way for nurses to be recognized by their peers as dedicated leaders in their profession. On May 3, over 50 KHN Cameos of Caring nominees will be introduced and recognized at a special event, with five winners chosen. Winners are also announced at the May 4 EFL Awards Program. Watch for information in the June/July edition of KHN Today.



National Hospital Week & National Nurses Week – May 3 – 7
Each year during the first week of May, Kettering Health Network medical centers and outpatient centers formally recognize the entire staff through National Hospital Week and National Nurses’ Week. This year’s theme is “Thank You for Raising the Bar in Health Care!” Employees will be given a special thank you treat in the cafeteria during that week, among other activities.



Excellence for Life Awards Program – Tuesday, May 4, Trent Arena
This annual event honors individuals and teams for exceptional quality and service, plus innovation and improvement across Kettering Health Network. Those who are recognized that evening include employees with milestone years of service, community service awardees, high-achieving teams, employees of the month, and those who have performed heroic and legendary acts of kindness. Invitations were mailed to honorees in April.



Arthritis Expo/Car Show – May 8, 10 a.m., Carillon Park
The Arthritis Walk® is the Arthritis Foundation’s annual nationwide event that raises awareness and funds to fight arthritis, the nation’s most common cause of disability. It is a tremendous opportunity to help improve the lives of the 46 million men, women and children doctor-diagnosed with arthritis. Choose from: a three-mile or one-mile walk route; write an inspirational message on the Wall of Heroes; wear a blue "hero" hat if you have arthritis. Come enjoy the fun and festivities and receive free health information!

The Hitek Car Show also benefits the Arthritis Foundation. Registration is from 9 a.m. to noon, and cost is $10 per car. Music, a 50/50 raffle, food, door prizes, vendors and children’s activities are part of this fun event. A Top 25 trophy presentation will take place at 3 p.m. Dash plaques will be given to the first 100 cars, and a local top fuel dragster (8000 horse power) will be fired up at 2 p.m. For more information visit: hitekhotrods.com.



New NeuroRehab Center Open House – May 10
Kettering Medical Center, Grandview/Southview Medical Centers and Greene Memorial Hospital collaborated on a Dayton first – an outpatient rehabilitation center dedicated to the treatment of people with neurological and balance disorders, the only facility of its kind in southwest Ohio.

An open house will be held at 3:30 p.m. on May 10 in the new NeuroRehab and Balance Center, located in the Yankee Medical Center, 7677 Yankee Street, on the Southview Medical Center campus. The event will feature a special dedication ceremony with a ribbon-cutting and reception. Refreshments and tours will be available.



Love Your Heart: KMC Heart Screenings – May 4, 13, 23, 24
Employees are encouraged to proactively manage their heart health and take advantage of screenings provided through the Cardiovascular (CVD) Prevention Center (formerly the Cardiac Outreach Program). Registration is required – call 395-8492 to schedule an appointment. More information is provided on the Kettering Health Network Web site: khnetwork.org.
  • May 4: Cardiovascular Health Assessment 2, Charles Lathrem Senior Center, 2900 Glengarry Drive, Kettering
  • May 24: Cardiovascular Health Assessment 2, Beavercreek Senior Center, 3868 Dayton-Xenia Road, Beavercreek
    This screening includes a series of exams to detect blockages in carotid arteries (neck). It also includes PAD to check for poor circulation in lower extremities, and the new CIMT, providing the earliest detectable evidence of heart disease. An optional aneurysm screening is available to look for silent enlargement of the aorta. Cost is $119 for three exams.
  • May 13: Cardiovascular Health Assessment 1 & 2, Kettering Seventh-day Adventist Church, 3939 Stonebridge Road (across from KMC)
    This screening provides a snapshot of current blood cholesterol levels and personal cardiovascular risk factors; includes total cholesterol, HDL and LDL, triglyceride and blood glucose levels; and provides an individual risk consultation and cardiovascular health plan. Cost: $22 for screening 1 and $119 for screening 2 (three exams).
  • May 23: Cardiac Calcium Score, Kettering Medical Center, 3535 Southern Blvd., Kettering
    This uses CT scans to detect calcium deposits in coronary arteries before symptoms develop. This test is fast and non-invasive. Cost: $99 per person.

Ribbon of Hope Luncheon – Oct. 14, Sinclair College
The Ribbon of Hope Luncheon originated in 2001 as an additional fund raiser for the Women's Wellness Fund. The fund, established in 1995, provides much needed mammography, diagnostic services and prosthetic apparel to underserved and under insured women in our community.
