KHN Reaches Out to Haiti

Some of our Network employees and physicians have recently traveled to Haiti to help provide medical care and support to the people there. KHN Volunteers in Haiti Stories are being collected and will be featured in the next issue of KHN Today. If you have a story, please contact Carol O’Hare, editor via e-mail at carol.ohare@khnetwork.org.

In recent weeks, there has continued to be a generous outpouring of desire from our Network and the community to ‘do more’ for Haiti. Kettering Health Network responded rapidly and generously with a $10,000 donation to the Dayton Chapter of the American Red Cross. Additionally, many have expressed their desire to contribute with their time and talents.

While there are many opportunities to get involved, organizations such as the American Medical Association, American College of Surgeons, Adventist Disaster Relief Agency, Loma Linda University, ACTS World Relief, and many other NGOs are offering opportunities to medical professionals and non-medical personnel to volunteer in, or around Port-Au-Prince, Haiti.

In addition to the above opportunities that can be pursued individually, KHN is independently organizing a small group to head down February 28-March 7 (dates subject to change). If you would like to get involved, or make a trip yourself, you may contact Stephen Waterbrook, MD at skwaterb@yahoo.com.
